Here is a truth that many people don’t seem to realize: even the most experienced of us online started with nothing.
That’s right even me.
When I first began my journey to work from home, I had absolutely NO EXPERIENCE. Keep in mind, I came from going to school to become a Vet Tech and only had experience in most retail jobs and doggie daycares. When I started online I had nothing to bring to the table: no experience online other than messaging on AOL, barely able to use Facebook, had no website coding experience and no content writing experience.
So, how did I do it? How did I manage to build a profitable online business in less than a year?
I taught myself everything. I strived to learn a little about online marketing each and every day until I held the plethora of knowledge I now have.
If I was able to do it, so can you. The trick is figuring out where to begin.
Hopefully I can help to teach you how to work from home with no experience in as simple of a way as possible.
No Experience? No Problem!
While many people often assume they do not have the experience necessary to succeed online, chances are every single person does have some skill that you can utilize online to work from home. Even if you don’t have work experience of being a content creator, social media manager, copywriter or customer service representative, it does not mean that you don’t have these skills. This is especially great since many people and companies who are hiring online for work from home employees are focusing more on recruiting people with the necessary skills and talent they are working for, not those who have the right work history.
Some of the skills that you may have and that you can utilize as an entry level worker online include:
- Prior sales experience
- Customer service experience
- Some form of writing, both academic and casual
- Administrative and clerical work such as send emails or invoices
- Conducting online research
- Can type really fast
Honestly, the more things that you do know how to do, the better. However, if you don’t, don’t worry. You can always learn it as you go.
Step One: Do Your Research
Most people tend to fall for too many online scams simply because they don’t do their research beforehand. With this in mind begin doing your research about working from home and what it will mean for you. I highly recommend checking out popular blogs such as ThePennyHorder.com or RealWaysToEarnMoneyOnline.com to learn all about the money-making process.
I also highly recommend reading a few eBooks on the subject as well. There aren’t many work from home books that are legit anymore, but I highly recommend checking out my own book titled, No More Bullshit: An Honest Approach To Making Money Online here or a book on Amazon.com by Jim E. Walker titled Passive Income: Work From Home-How To Build A Successful Online Business here. Both books contain helpful information on legitimate ways to make money online as well as give you steps to apply for these jobs yourself. I highly recommend checking them out.
The more research you do on the subject the better. Better to be educated on making money online rather than ignorant.
Second any time you come across a “money making program,” ALWAYS DO YOUR RESEARCH TO SEE IF IT IS IN FACT LEGIT. Look through as many reviews as possible and even look at what people are saying on social media. All it takes is a few minutes on Google to save yourself from getting scammed.
Step Two: Make Sure You Have The Tools For The Job
The next thing that you are going to have to do is make sure that you have all of the tools you need in order to work online in the first place. Most companies online that you can work for will require you to have a stable internet connection, a computer (yes, no phone), a phone number where you can be reached and an email address.
It also wouldn’t hurt to have a few apps that you can use for your work such as:
- Microsoft Office-such as Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint or Access
- A headset-for communicating with prospective clients
- Copyscape-for writing freelancers (this is a must for writers!)
Having these apps and tools will help you to stand above the competition.
Step Three: Look For Legitimate Work From Home Jobs or Online Money Making Opportunities
Now, this is where many people tend to mess up and don’t worry, I was one of them as well. There are too many online scams out there to make sense of what is legitimate and what is fake. But, don’t worry. I am here to help you with that.
The best place for beginners to start online is with freelancing. Freelancing is the perfect way for beginners to get their feet wet in the online money making pool. Freelancing is simply a term used when you are self-employed and are earning money in return to completing different tasks for different clients. These tasks can be different depending on your chosen field.
Freelancing jobs can fall in a variety of different categories. However, some of the most common categories you can find in freelance work include:
- Graphic Design
- Website Development
- Content Writing
Even if you don’t have experience in these fields, it is still possible to find jobs, as long as you educate yourself first.
The best place to find freelance jobs are obviously online. However, there are some freelancing job sites that are better than others. The best freelancing websites to use are:
- UpWork (The Absolute Best)
Of course, while freelancing may seem like to be the ultimate job, it is not for everyone. When you become a freelancer, you are essentially becoming your own boss and as such you are going to be the one to find your own clients, make sure that you meet deadlines and above all make sure that you get paid for the work you complete.
For those who would rather not have so much independence when it comes to working, there are legitimate companies out there that hire independent contractors. Some of these companies include:
- Rev.com-for online transcription work
- Apple.com-work from home support technician
- Sykes Home-work at home customer service
- VIPdesk Connect-work at home customer service representative
- Mystery Shoppers-paid to shop
- Needle-chat agents, help shoppers pick the products they need
- iSoftStone-Data Collection crowdworkers
- GrubHub-customer serviced agent
- ListVerse-Make $100 per list of 10 items or more
- Inbox Dollars-Make money while searching the Internet
- Vocalabs-Survey Administrators
- Mechanical Turk-Microtasker
- Cambly-Have an English conversation with someone foreign
Another great place to find legitimate work from home job is FlexJobs.com, Monster.com or Indeed.com.
While these are great ways to find legitimate work from home jobs, what happens if you are the type of person that doesn’t want to work for a company or employer? What happens if you want to work solely for yourself?
Well, there are ways that you can do that too. For those ways see my other post 21 Legitimate ways to make money online here.
I hope that by the end of this LOOOOOOOOONG page you have learned how to make money from home with no experience. Remember, even the best of us started from scratch and if we can do it, so can you.
