With the many online money making scams out there, sometimes it can be difficult to actually know about the truth about making money online in the first place. No matter where you go online, you are always bombarded by people claiming that you can make a ton of cash online when that is not always the case.
There are numerous truths about making money online that should be revealed right from the gate, but no online marketer would ever tell you about them.
However, I am not like any other online marketer.
Here are 15 truths about making money online that EVERYBODY should know!
#1: There Really Is No Step-By-Step Process That You Can Follow To Ensure Your Success
I’m sure you have probably come across a ton of these in the past that claim if you follow someone’s step-by-step method, you in turn will make as much money as they do. This is not the case because everybody’s journey online is complete different and what may work for one person, may not always work for you.
Why is this?
It is because not everybody out there will build the same exact website as you or promote the same exact products as you. You also may be better at conducting product reviews then somebody else or you may be worse at it.
In order to be successful online you need to cater to YOUR strengths, not someone else’s. If you like talking in front of people or are very outgoing, Youtube videos may be for you. If you are more of a writer, than blogging will be for you.
Remember, everybody’s journey is different. I can easily provide you with an eBook or online training course that can point you in the right direction but ultimately your success will depend on YOU and what works best for YOU.
#2. Don’t Reveal All Of Your Secrets
There are a lot of people out there who are automatically going to assume that because you may or may not make money online, that you are willing to share all of your secrets to success (trust me, I have been there). These people are also going to make assumptions as to how much money you make when in truth they are completely off base.
So, what do you do with these people?
Well, you are first going to have to figure out what you are willing to tell people and what you are not willing to tell them. Myself for example, I tell people that I do make money online, show them proof to back it up and let them make their own assumptions from there. If they wish to make money as well I point them in the right direction and let them figure out. What I DON’T tell people is the exact steps I have taken or the marketing techniques I use simply because I would be out of business myself if I did.
The point is there are always going to be people out there that are going to question every move that you make and who will want proof as to what you are doing to make money. In the end it will be up to you whether or not you reveal your own secrets to them.
#3. Not Having Experience Online Is Not An Excuse!
You name it, I have heard it all before. When it comes to making money online many people out there will spit off all of these different excuses as to why they can’t do it such as not having experience with marketing, building a website, using social media, writing etc.
Well, guess what? I started off with knowing nothing as well. When I started I didn’t even realize you could make money online. I didn’t even know it was a THING!
Just like with most things on the Internet, if you have the passion for it, are willing to work hard for it and are willing to go out there and find all of the resources you need to get started, you CAN learn how to make money online.
I know at first it can seem a bit overwhelming due to all of the information that you learn at first, but every single marketer out there today started with little to no knowledge of online marketing. You just have to give it a shot first before giving up on it before you even start!
#4. Never Just Do It For The Money
There are going to be many marketers out there who claim that they needed money so badly when they started that it was the secret to their own success (myself included). While this may be true for many online marketers, there is always something else that is discovered along the way that fuels their desire to keep working online.
At first it may seem like money is the only motivating factor, but once you begin it won’t take you long to discover that secondary motivational factor.
For me I had many different motivational factors that pushed me to expand my online business. I have a passion for gaming, pet nutrition and teaching people how to avoid scams online. I followed those passions and the money I earned was just a wonderful by-product of my passion.
#5. Free Doesn’t Always Mean Free
It is no secret that we all love free stuff. Whether it is a free ebook or free online marketing course, everybody wants something that is free! What I don’t understand is why people try to use every free method they can find to make money online.
If you are serious about making money online, then at some point you are going to have to invest in yourself to make that happen. Even if it means that you need to save up to purchase a domain name, purchase a membership or pay for hosting, eventually you are going to have to do so to ensure you own success.
What many people don’t understand is that doing anything for free will eventually cost you more money and time in the long run.
#6. Your Knowledge Is More Valuable Than You May Think
One of the common trends that I see among many newbies today is that they don’t really take their own knowledge seriously or use it to their advantage. The truth is that you are an expert in some field and you are considered an expert to someone. So, why not build upon your expertise and cash in on it?
Don’t sell yourself short or underestimate yourself. You know enough about one particular topic that you can become an expert about it online.
#7. Getting Relevant and Quality Traffic Is A Ton of Hard Work
Ok, this is one that I just need to get off my chest…if getting traffic was as easy as many “guru’s” out there claim it to be, everybody on the planet and online would be filthy rich.
Getting the traffic that you need that is not only relevant to your niche but that is also of the highest quality is no easy task. It takes time, lots of content, branding and even finding your own voice. Finding all of this stuff takes time.
Just think about it. Is there someone you may have come across online that has one or two things on their websites that make them stand out? These things are often what has led to their success online.
#8. Beware Shining Object Syndrome
Ok, I am guilty of falling prey to this myself, but it is still something worth mentioning.
Just when you think you are ready to promote your product or program full-time, suddenly a new and shiny app, product or program hits the web and offers more cash for its promotion. Suddenly you feel that you just HAVE to promote it.
No, don’t do it. Stay focused.
I can tell you from experience that it is incredibly easy to waste many hours on websites or programs that bring you little to no value. Just stay focused and keep pushing through!
#9. Surround Yourself With Successful People
The truth is that if you want to become successful online, it is always best to surround yourself with people who are already successful online. That is the main reason that I joined the WA community in the first place.
It is always a great idea to join an online community where people can share their various successes or experience so you can learn exactly what it takes to make money online.
#10. Even When You Have Tried Enough…Keep Trying!
So, you may have started a website and have been promoting it to the best of your ability, but nobody is visiting.
You may have even started a Youtube channel but nobody is watching your videos except for your friends and family.
So, now what do you do?
Well, the first logical thing that you can do is keep trying. You wouldn’t be the first person to experience an online setback. Even I have experienced them. You know, not every website I started was an immediate success.
So, when it comes time to try again, tweak up your campaigns a bit. That’s the best thing about the Internet today: it is very forgiving!
Here are a few things that you can try:
Try changing niches
Make sure you are setting yourself apart from the competition
Work harder at building your brand and your online personality
Change up your promotional methods
Reset yourself and change your directions. Also, don’t be afraid to try something you have never done before. Who knows, that could be your secret to success right there.
#11. Don’t Do It Alone
Remember how I mentioned joining an online community is key to your success? Well, this is where it can play a huge role. You should always seek out feedback from those who are doing the exact same thing you are doing and that can help you any time you need it.
However, you need to make sure that you join an online community where people are successful and that are willing to share their own experiences online. Again, that is why I recommend Wealthy Affiliate. You can even talk one-on-one with the owner of the community who is always willing to share his success secrets.
#12. Never Give Up
Have you ever heard the saying, “90% of Affiliate marketers fail at making a single cent online?” That statement is 100% true, but do you know why that is? It is because they give up too easily, too fast.
In order to be successful online, the first thing that you have to do is not give up. Even when you want to, keep pushing yourself and keep working. Trust me, I was there too. But if I can succeed then I know you can as well.
#13 Writing Quality Content Has More Than Just One Meaning Nowadays
If there is one thing that every Internet marketer has in common is the fact that we always tend to preach about coming up with consistent high quality content for your sites.
But what does this even mean?
There are many newbies out there who think their sites are loaded with this so-called “high quality content” when in fact their content may be mediocre at best. So here are a few tips that I want to give you regarding that topic:
When writing content, always try to accompany it with a video. You have probably heard the saying that video sells more than writing nowadays. Well, that is true. It is easy to upload videos on platforms such as Youtube or Vimeo and it will actually go a long way to make your content that much more engaging.
Create articles that make people THINK. Always try to come up with new article ideas that will leave your audience asking questions and that in turn will leave them turning to you to find the answers.
If you are going to write a review on a program or a product, always back it up with evidence. Always SHOW your audience what you are talking about rather than just TELLING them. Trust me, it helps them understand your stance on a particular product/program and the more you show them, the more inclined they will be to take your side.
Always use social media to your advantage. The more eyeballs you have on your website and content via social media, the better.
When writing content, always try to do so using a storytelling technique. Again this is yet another way to keep your audience engage and to draw your audience into your article.
The point that I am trying to make here is that the Internet has evolved over the years and in response, you are going to have to evolve with it in terms of what kind of content you create. So, instead of writing high quality content, write ENGAGING content.
#14. Google Adsense Will Not Work For Every Site Out There
Google Adsense is great for one thing: it gives people the chance to publish ads on their sites or videos in order to make a profit. However, let’s face it. Some ads and some websites will do better in Google Adsense revenue than others.
The key thing to follow here is the high competition that a niche has, the higher the ad cost will be and the more you will make as an ad publisher.
If you see that your Google Adsense revenue is fairly low, don’t automatically assume that it is because of something you have done. It actually just might be your niche.
#15. SEO Plugins Are Overrated
There are many marketers out there who are going to claim that SEO plugins are the best ways to increase your traffic by ensuring that your website gets ranked in the search engines. Yeah…this is not really true. SEO plugins are not going to skyrocket your traffic.
Don’t get me wrong. They do help by showing you exactly what search engines are looking for, but they are not going to give you all of the traffic that you want.
What gets you a shit ton of traffic? Earning natural backlinks that point back to your site and having a strong presence on social media. THAT is what gets you noticed by others!
I hope that you take my advice to heart and work hard towards making money online. Again as I said, if I can do it, then I know you can too!
